This section covers different methods whose use provides a comprehensive and complementary reading of a painting. They are based on the implementation of our proper portable tools. The aim is to obtain images of what the eye does not see, penetrating more or less deeply into the matter.
Observation under white light: paintings
A white light beam is applied to the surface of the work, at different angles of incidence, to reveal the painter’s palette and technique, the micro-relieves of the surface, its heterogeneities, its network of cracks, and more generally, its state of conservation.
Wherever possible, this approach is supplemented by an observation of the work by passing light.
